Hi Gary

These give general information ABOUT file descriptors, but I didn't see where they help determine how many are in use.

The second link is not germain, so far as I can tell - that is about SQL descriptors - a different animal, related to the SQL CLI interface, as I recall from working with that.

But I've been wrong a couple times before!

I even have a doubt about my suggestion to use fcntl() - I don't remember or know if there can be gaps in the used file descriptors - each does refer to an open file, and if one closes one with a lower FD while one with a higher FD is open, is the lower one reused? I used to have to play with these when working with the RPG2SQL product at RJS, since that opened sockets. It's been awhile!

Subject: list of open descriptors

Gurus!
I have been looking around for how to find a list of open descriptors in a job without much luck. Probably my ignorance of how to search for the command or API. In particular, these are the descriptors to write to IFS files but my understanding is that descriptors can be for any "open" operation such as a socket as well.
What is the command or API that will show the list of open descriptors or the number of open descriptors in a job?
