I think that best practice avoids building logical files or VIEWs over
IBM files and tables.

It's quite useful in duplicating the SETLL/SETGT op-code in RPG and it is used frequently in our code for this reason.

Yep. I'm not taking it out of my older embedded SQL until maintenance
takes me into that code. And even then, maybe not.
