Without any real understanding of what your application does, it is unlikely that moving your application to ANY non-Microsoft platform will be easy. Your application will likely need to be re-developed for its new platform.

Some languages offer some portability across platforms. PHP or Java applications should be highly portable, whereas C or C++ are somewhat less portable, but still fairly straight-forward...

Otherwise, languages like C#, VB, and the like would need to be re-written in another language.

Is it easier for them to be moved to other platforms like Linux or AIX?
