RE: netserver guest accounts

All true. Go into the NetServer configuration and check it. Depending on the OS version you came from (V5R4?) there have some changes to how security is handled. Pay attention to the set up bits with respect to passwords. If you set it up and restart it, then NetServer should start to behave better.

Guest accounts have always been available....

The impact to permissions is simple, the in your netserver setup you have to tell the system what OS account to use for "guests"...

So the users who don't have a matching IBM i user name and password will only be able to access what you've allow the guest account to access. (And remember all OS accounts are included in *PUBLIC)

Guest user profiles

i5/OS® NetServer™ supports guest user profiles, also known as an
anonymous user profile.
The i5/OS operating system can automatically map an unknown user to
the guest user profile if you specify a guest user profile. Your
network administrator can specify and change the guest user profile
that i5/OS NetServer uses if necessary on the i5/OS NetServer Advanced
- Next start page within System i® Navigator.
In general, the guest user profile should have few authorities because
the guest user is considered an untrusted user.
