My guess is that the Windows driver is sending the code for "drawer=auto", allowing the printer to select which drawer to use, which in turn allows it to fall back to another drawer when needed.

By contrast, IBM i print files typically default to drawer=1 (prompt the CRTPRTF command, you'll see that "Source Drawer" defaults to 1). So they send the escape code telling it to use a specific drawer.

One way to solve that is to create WSCST source. Find out the escape code that Windows is sending for "auto" (it might be in the docs, or you might have to use a network sniffer to see what's sent) and then have the WSCST for drawer one send the same code.

Hello all,

We recently replaced all of our copier/printers with new ones. (Kyocera TASKalfa 4501i KX)

Paper trays 1 and 2 contain 8.5x11" paper. When tray 1 runs out, we've set up the printer to feed from tray 2. This works fine for Windows jobs. (Hence, we're not changing it.)

This also worked fine (on the previous printers) for "i" jobs. We're set up as devices, not remote outqs.

On the new printers, when tray 1 runs out, the printing stops and we get an error on the i.

I have consulted the IBM printer info and tried every permutation of MFRTYPMDL listed. I've also tried messing around with a WSCST to no avail.

Has anyone seen this and dealt with it?

Thank you.
