But just how crippled up would it be?

Would many of the SQL services I use be non functioning because they are
more like wrappers for APIs?
Would all telnet into the 'box' now assume 5250 screens?
Would it commonly be a year or more behind on TR's and new releases?
Pretty much a kiss of death for a 'sand box' machine.

Would it be as popular as, oh, let's say SAA RPG for the mainframe?
Keeping in mind that SAA RPG had no support for display files and whatnot.
