First question, how to on VIOS:  
-oem_setup_env 
-smit
-devices 
-disk array 
-SAS Disk Array
-Diagnostics and Recovery Options
-Controller Rechargeable Battery Maintenance.  
- (if you don't know the rest from there, don't mess with it......) 
Second question:  P8 don't have replaceable batteries anymore if I remember
the controllers correctly.    Yes there is massive Cache on the controller
(that actually has cache, some controllers do not) that run those drives.

On non-guested SUSE linux on Power 6 we used these steps to check cache
battery life:
Start a putty session to that machine.
- Run the utility by typing iprconfig
- Select work with disk unit recovery
- Select work with resources containing cache battery packs
- Select the adapter and type 1.  Then press enter to display battery
information. 
How do I do this on VIOS on Power 8?  Or, do even the drives in the CEC not
have cache batteries?
