If the system can be restarted It would not hurt to try that.

the cabling is not an issue, verified with IBM. The issue seems to be
controller or server firmware.

at the moment - biggest issue: the box is under IBM maintenance, but not
booked into their systems yet, so no IBMer will come until this process is
finished... *argh*
