A twinax console is not supported on a "new box". So eventually, yes,
you'll have to deal with that. The question is "will you have to remove
twinax on your existing hardware to upgrade to 7.1?".
IBM will often say that certain models will support certain releases of
the OS. This is good. However, you often have to dig hard to discover
that there is often many features that are in your box that are not
supported. For example, our Power 6 models supported 7.2 just fine. The
kick was that so many features that we had were not supported that it just
made sense to switch to Power 8 first.
The knowledge center will refer you to the prerequisite center to find
"provides you with operating system compatibility information for hardware
features.". However, if you can use this to figure out how to find out
what features you're running (if any) are not supported by 7.1 good luck.
To me this seems to show the minimum level of OS needed to support any
particular feature. Not the maximum.
