I just saw that we probably have not answered the OPs question below? I will take it in the context of understanding an existing query.

I suggest that if the OP has the query text for the SELECT, that he put it into STRSQL command entry, hit F4 to prompt, then prompt on any of the field list entry points - at that point, the long names can be seen and may help.

The other thing to do is query on SYSCOLUMNS view and select on the system names - I forget the name of the column in SYSCOLUMNS that holds this value.
