I am curious as to why some people who are using VTL's duplicate
everything to physical tape.
Is it because they only have one VTL and it's local so, therefore, they
want to get something offsite?
In our case, this is due to a customer requirement. They want every
backup on two distinct media in two distinct sites. The distance between
our two sites is around 10 km which is enough for the customer.
For this requirement, we cannot use the VTL replication function, as it
replicates media with the same name. They are indeed on distinct
physical support (the two disk storage systems), but they have the same
media label, whic is confusing for the customer and their auditors.
We're finding out that the labor of physically handling media, dealing
with Iron Mountain, training backup personnel to cover physically handling
media, etc is a big PITA.
Still in our case, we do not send physical media offsite. They remain in
the physical tape library storage slots. So, there is no labor, BRMS
does all the duplication work.

anything..., thanks anyway to Chuck for his suggestion)
