Ok, keep in mind on my replies that I did say I was out for a day and I
should have read these all.

Is there a compromise intermediate step?

For example on our multi lpar systems we use IBM i hosting IBM i. Each of
our Power 8's has 5 lpars of IBM i (along with other stuff). One of those
lpars hosts the disk. I use that hosting lpar to host the image catalog
also and I don't use NFS except across the backplane from the guests to
the hosts. In other words, I don't use NFS from one Power 8 to the other,
yet. This would require a little more cooperation from our network guy
and that's something I need to work on.

But ignoring NFS for this part...
I really find using save files to store the bin files to distribute them a
senseless waste of time and disk space. IDK why you don't just ftp them
directly.
Hoping for higher compression during the comm?
