Use CALLP with the E extender if you want to handle errors when there is nothing returned - you can't use EVAL on a CALL that doesn't return something, right?

And of course one could just use MONITOR - but this is a good enough reason for CALLP, seems to me.

Of course, you can choose to say CALLP is obsolete due to the existence of MONITOR - I guess that's your choice, eh?   :)

Sorry, why do CALLP when I can simply do.

dcl-pr GetCount ExtProc('CLPROC');
PR_Field1 Char(9)
end-pr

GetCount(Field1);

why do I need CALLP?

dcl-pr GetCount Int(10) ExtProc('Cpro');
PR_Field1 Char(10);
end-pr;

How do I call this using a CALLP? I can't without discarding the return
value.

If I can prototype any call, then I don't need CALLP.

Alan,

CALL is obsolete...

CALLB is call bound prcoedure & is also obsolete

CALLP is call using prototype; and is the only call you should be using.

In what circumstances must you use a CALLP?. What call cannot be

Why would you use CALLP in RPG? It has been obsolete for twenty
years.

Incorrect -- for more than one reason. It is optional in
certain
circumstances and required in others.
