Another option is to use the jar utility in qshell which zips everything
including subfolders.

jar cfM output.zip /Invoices/2018-05/

And then ftp the generated output.zip file.

From the IBM i, I'm wanting to FTP an entire folder (not the old QDLS) to
my desktop PC, which has FTP server running. I can't come up with the
correct PUT statement and my googling skills are betraying me.

Isn't it just:

put /folder/subfolder/*

/folder/subfolder is off the root of IFS, and contains dozens of
subsubfolders, some empty and some not.
