Re: Mapping Shared IFS folders to Mac

Jon, My IBM i that I can connect to from my mac is v7.1, so not sure the netserver example applies.

I have two shares defined on my i “/“ and “/home”. From ‘finder’ i tried to map the “/“ using cifs://1.2.3.4 that does not work.
When I tried connecting to “cifs://1.2.3.4/home” that works.

the same was true for “smb://1.2.3.4” (failed) and "smb://1.2.3.4/home” (works)

I called my root directory share “ROOT” and when I did smb://1.2.3.4/ROOT that worked as well.


I then tried NFS.

on my mac I created a directory /NFS and on my i, I did the following:
EXPORTFS OPTIONS('-i') DIR('/home’)
STRNFSSVR SERVER(*ALL)

then from a terminal prompt on the mac:

mount 1.2.3.4:/home /NFS


It shows up as “home” in ‘finder’ and in ‘Shared’ and “devices” ‘MacBook Air”
from terminal window ls -la /NFS shows the contents of the IBM i /home directory

If in the connection string I simply put the system name i.e. smb://ideveloper <smb://ideveloper> then it clearly connects because it then produces a list of the available shares - and it is the correct list as per GO NETS and the web thingy.

However, as soon as I select the one i need I am back to the "URLs of type smb: are not supported by this server - which is silly 'cos it just showed me a list of them,

Hopefully this will give someone a hint.
