What, you've never pulled cards and replaced them with the system running
hot? Novice. :-)

I think you have a good explanation of the hypervisor. However, think
back to IPCS cards. You carved out storage spaces to load Windows on in
IBM i. IBM i hosting IBM i (or AIX or Linux) is done pretty much the same
way, just without the need for the IPCS card.
