I think my confusion is IBM i hosting IBM i... You're not carving resources out of an LPAR; the LPAR never gets those resources in the first place! The HMC/Hypervisor gives them to a 2nd LPAR.

I think you have a good explanation of the hypervisor. However, think
back to IPCS cards. You carved out storage spaces to load Windows on in
IBM i. IBM i hosting IBM i (or AIX or Linux) is done pretty much the same
way, just without the need for the IPCS card.
