If I understand your question, then I would point to IWS and web services on the i, for XML and/or JSON CRUD.  It looks like a solution that average RPG programmers would pick up immediately. I say this because RPG programmers are already able to write programs and service programs that use parameters, and that is all that is needed to implement web services on the i.

Yes, someone has to understand the web services server itself but... well...  on that issue I best just be quiet.
