Ok, in that case you have no need to know the volume id.
First of all, use the BRMS network feature. This way each system knows
what saves the other system has done.

Then on your development system you simply do
RSTLIBBRM SAVLIB(MYLIB) DEV(TAPMLB01) SAVLVL(*CURRENT) FROMSYS(PRODUCTION)

We do this.
Our biggest problem is that the save and restore machine are not in the
same state. We save to one VTL at one location, which automatically
replicates over to another VTL at the other location. Then we have to do
some interactive work (EMC DD2500) to move the tape from the "vault" to
the library. I have a project open to figure out how to write script to
the DD2500 to see if I can program this.
