The other question might be, Is IBM still selling VTLs? AFAIK the
ProtecTIERs are End of Marketing and there is no replacement...

Some customers have EMC which at least are "respected" by IBM if there is
a support case.

We're using OpenSource-VTL (quadstor) with IBM i with rather good
experience, but we are doing the support
by ourselves for VTL and IBM-BRMS. If you're not that experienced user you
might go best with IBM
only, but there's some price...

While on the phone with BRMS support today, I mentioned that I might be
going to a VTL library.
IBM support mentioned that the only supported VTL libraries are IBM's.
Even though the 3rd party VTLs may work fine, they are not supported by
IBM.

I was seriously considering one of these 3rd party VTLs, but now I'm not
so sure on the choice.

One of the goals of the VTL was to add a 2nd library, eliminating the
daily manual tape handling to off-site storage.

Anyone in the group using non-IBM VTLs?
