Re: Vendor wants an SST profile

I am totally ignorant of QEDD but altering programs to run system state is
decidedly not recommended. If they have a valid reason for what they are
doing then a much better solution would be as ask IBM for an API (either
callable or an exit depending on the requirement). Historically companies,
previously working below the MI, have appreciated having a formally
supported IBM interface to accomplish the business goal.. This generally
avoids extra work, by them, for items like supporting a new release (or
even a PTF in some cases).

Several IBM i related manuals have the following (which is one way to ask
for a new capability):

Licensees of this program who wish to have information about it for the
purpose of enabling: (i) the exchange of information
between independently created programs and other programs (including this
one) and (ii) the mutual use of the information
which has been exchanged, should contact the software interoperability
coordinator. Such information may be available,
subject to appropriate terms and conditions, including in some cases,
payment of a fee.

I used to be, among other things, the Software Interoperability Coordinator
(one of my longer titles and one created just for me lol) and know the
position is currently filled by a very capable developer in Rochester. I
however can't guarantee that the mailing room knows that... If QEDD wants
to pursue this alternative they can contact me offline and I'll give them
the direct name and email address in order to make such a request.
