Just got off the phone from my IBM i cloud provider.

He spent the last 3.5 hours on the phone with IBM. Said he finally got to
talk to the best PTF person IBM has, whom he has known for years.

He was told, in my case, I don't have to do anything special because I have
both levels 16 and 17. But if I want to feel better, I can apply SI71633
and SI71635 (the superseding ones in level 17 that Paul mentioned earlier)
first.

I use SNDPTFORD with SAVF, totally automated, AJS job runs every two weeks.
With the SAVF I also get the cover letters for each PTF downloaded.
I review all the cover letters before any PTFs get loaded.

Correct me if I'm wrong, with image catalog, you lose the cover letter
capability.

In the end, do it however you wish, but fix central is a different
discussion. I've very rarely had any issue with fix central, so I can't
relate to the problems there. Then again I always use FTP to get the
images so I don't have to deal with the download director foolishness.

And yes, we often use CLP to order, ( via SNDPTFORD) download, and get
ready for apply. Almost completely automated.

I disagree. I used image catalogs with Fix Central. When I gave up on
Fix Central and switched to SNDPTFORD I couldn't use image catalogs due to
an OS bug. IBM patched the bug, but by that point I'd started using SAVF.
It's much easier and I have no intention of going back.

I guess I missed the discussion about old SAVFs. I've never had a
problem with it.

With a due respect, the image catalog IS the simplest and easiest
method.
Particularly with clean up of old stuff that just needs to go away.
(reference thread a short while back about cleaning up SAVF in QGPL).

Don’t let “I’ve done it that way forever” stop doing the best thing.

It’s also faster than save files.
