Patrik:

I understand the argument, and have made it many times in the past. There
comes a point where unless the change requested is so minor as to not
detract from other enhancements (i.e.: F8 enhancement) that you must put a
foot down and force the changes.

I'm upgrading my perfectly functional iPad today because Apple has decided
my Apps will not run on that iPad any longer. Security is a large part of
that issue.

P8 runs V7R2, V7R3 and V7R4 so unless you're stuck with a now unsupported P7
(which also runs V7R3) you can upgrade. If you have a hardware limitation,
then you will have to live with it or upgrade, just like the iPad example.
If the problem is OEM software, get after the vendors to get their act
together and get it tested.

That's why V5R4 was around for way too long. V7R1 was around for quite some
time too. Time to move on. In the iPad example the vendors said, too bad,
upgrade. You think Microsoft would play this same game, no chance.

Backward compatibility is great, right until you cannot move forward due to
the baggage that's continually being carried. One of the reasons this
platform has a reputation of being old/legacy is folks don't keep up.

Why spend a single cent on enhancing V7R2. It goes away soon.

Because there are other people who are maybe bound to earlier versions for
various reasons.
