I figured it was the maintenance.
SSD's or spinning disks?
I've been told that the maintenance on SSD's is still extra but not the nightmare it once was.
Third party maintenance puts you on IBM's less than desirable list when it comes to access to the latest and greatest. I think IBM is concerned as to they may be a leak in the NDA process. If the local maintenance guy mentions to another local customer that you have project X and the other guy was just about to ink a contract but puts it on hold and the sales guy doesn't make quarter all hell breaks loose.
I was used as a reference on IBM NetStations years ago. One reference was going to buy a LOT of them. However when I mentioned that IBM had no intention of updating the browser to work with newer Domino he cancelled. It got ugly. I don't think that information was under NDA but maybe should just not have been volunteered.
