Initialize media on expiration. . . *YES
Since we have the dedup going, not an over abundance of expired tapes (~200), and space to spare on our VTL, I'm not going to try it and risk the performance hit. Besides, it's nice to have yet one more date (or so) to restore from if necessary.
I do have some expired tapes in my list resulting from
WRKMEDIBRM LIB(ERPLXF) START(*FIRST)

But your reply is probably just what the OP is looking for.
