I think if you read the link provided by Diego you may get farther. I think the trick there is NOT to use your "normal" IP line and address but to instead use one created via service tools. This is a little different. I've used such connections to do system upgrades (keeping in mind that IPLing from image catalog when in restricted state bangs up TCP/IP pretty bad so yes one has to do this).
