Nice to see enthusiasm for this stuff!  (I was doing it already back in the late 90's, but it felt like nobody else on IBM i was doing it.)

Just a tip:  Consider coding for sh rather than bash.   Most likely, the changes will be small (if any) but your scripts will be much more portable.   Not everyone has bash installed, for example.  On Unix systems the best script writers generally target sh because it'll work anywhere
