It's the same as with IBM i. The machine can be busy in the background, while a calm login screen blinks his cursor at you.

You can use hypervisor functions to look if there's activity on CPU or disk.

Even booting a vHMC can take a long time. Thanks to that incredible inefficient Java-blob by IBM eating RAM and CPU in the background like mad.

That's really long! One of the reasons I'm not too happy with those closed "black boxes". Gimme root and I'll see what's going on. ;-)
