Aside from you'll be right back where you started from, it's about 4 hours
to build a system from scratch anyway.

Thought: Assuming you can get the cabling done (Larry?) set up a second HMC
as your new build, then you have the old one until the new one
connects......

I don't have any recent snap shops.
However we are using IBM Spectrum Protect (formerly known as Tivoli Storage
Manager). Guy started a restore of that VM from SP. He estimates four
hours.
If it wasn't for the lack of Critical Console Data I'd have him do the new
scratch install directly from ova (or something like that).

Rob,

Do you know what VM hypervisor tech they are using, and on what OS/version?
Do they run periodic checkpoints/snapshots?
Is your vHMC running on Power or x86 architecture?
What version of the HMC where you upgrading from, and to what version?
Do you have access to the hypervisor host, and does it have a GUI
enabled/installed?

If you have access to the hypervisor host and there's a GUI installed, I
would hop on and try to open a connection to the VM natively from the host
just to take a peak from a different point of view.

Of course IBM hasn't called back. Just got off the phone with the duty
manager. We'll see if that does any good.

Oh, why didn't I have the vm guy do a snap shot right before starting?!?

I'm guessing a foul has occurred. Has IBM responded?

I would be flopping back to the original VM instance and getting it running.

Five hours later and I'm still staring at the same screen!

I am upgrading my vHMC following the steps at:
https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6372280
I have ran the step: hmcshutdown -t now -r
It started the reboot. It's been sitting at a screen displaying the
following for quite some time now:
IBM Linux 9 (hmc9_0p)
Kernel 4.18.0-193.14.3.el8.im.1.x86_64 on an x86_64
localhost login:
I tried logging in as hscroot. It did not like that. Then it erased the
screen and redisplayed the above.
What do I do?

I have a case opened with IBM on this. However they never get back to you
on the same day regarding HMC issues until you bring the duty manager on the
line. Once it's been here for two hours I will try that route.
