Maybe this is my ignorance of Metro Mirror talking but are the P8 and the P9 in the same location?
If not, I can see why your network guys are getting a little testy. When we switch over from our primary to our secondary (using software replication) we have to change our DNS to point the lpar to a different IP address. We have a command which uses ssh into our Windows DNS to fix this as part of the switch script.
