Short story:
The guy from IBM cannot explain why lspv shows a different number of drives. Someone will call me tomorrow.

Long story:
IBM guy: On the HMC tell it to turn off the LED lights.
Me: And that will fix why lspv shows a different number of drives, how?
Apparently we had a case back in December which may not have been fully completed. That case too was "an interesting experience".
