Furthermore, many of the AIX folks came to AIX having moved off of HP and
other "unix" type systems, most forcibly, so they are not as adamant about
the platform, it's just another unix.

That said, most of those folks love dealing with the device drivers, and
constant small patches, and the arcane command syntax of that stuff. When
we were writing the IBM certification exams for IBM i and AIX (back when
IBM had them, now COMMON has them) the AIX guys could not believe we did
not need to worry about updating the microcode on ethernet cards, fibre or
SAS cards, print drivers etc. We explained that it was all part of the
hardware PTF group or HIPERs and they were amazed at how easy it was.

Some folks just like that stuff, and I applaud them for it...... I'll
stick with IBM i. I spend less than 10% of my admin time on IBM i, the
balance on AIX, HMC, VIOS (really about the same as AIX), and SAN
(including the switches) updates. Too much like work.....

I like the candor. :)

But I think realistically, AIX folks probably *are* less passionate
(in general) than IBM i folks. The reason I think that is because AIX
is not *that* different from other flavors of Unix or Linux. It might
be painful for some of them to leave AIX behind, but not as painful as
it would be for IBM i fans to leave IBM i behind.
