You can create save files on your newer machine for 7.1. Or, to be more precise, add data formatted to 7.1 specs to a previously, empty, save file. Or use savrst. Both accept the TGTRLS parameter.

SNDNETF – I found this to be not applicable at all. The 2GB size limit seems to be unchangeable. This save file if around 75GB!

Please elaborate about this 2GB limit you are talking about. I'm working on machines back to V2R3 and I have definitely created save files larger than 2GB on V4R5. Thus I assert there is no 2GB limit for save files, no matter if from QSYS.LIB, nor from the IFS. I dimly remember to have transferred files slightly larger than 2GB via FTP and sndnetf to my V4R5 machine, also. Im sending a 10GB daily backup file (ISO image) via FTP to a Linux-Box from 7.2 without issue.

And, how did you deduct this is a 2GB problem? Does something happen when the 2GB barrier is crossed? If yes, please elaborate on which step this happened. At least sndnetf does not care about file sizes in the single digit GB range.

It could help if you describe more thoroughly which steps exactly you're doing, what you expect, and which unexpected behavior did show up. We can't look over your shoulder. :-)

crtsavf, sav, and then ftp? What kind of error message did you get from FTP? Or sndnetf? Or were those issued earlier? Did you check job logs for your local job, and for the receiver FTP job on the older machine?

I have changed the TCP attributes on both sending and receiving systems. This does change the behaviour of FTP at all.

There is plenty of space on both systems and no space restrictions on the user (QSECOFR).

As for subnet – both machines are on the same rack and connected to the same comms hardware.

Then what is this VPN thing you've mentioned?

I have identified one specific subfolder in the IFS structure I am saving where there is an enormous amount of data. I am thinking of transferring that piece separately and possibly piecemeal.
