Why save to IFS?
1 - Many people are under the belief that saving to disk is faster than tape. What they don't realize is that you're using the same heads, etc and tape drives are so much faster than back in the day, that the disk may be slower or not significantly different.
2 - The machine is remote and there's no one there to handle tapes so they save it to IFS, send it remotely and then DUPMEDBRM it to tape. We used to do this.
3 - They save it to some other storage device. We may not agree with this but it is what it is.
