Short answer, yes. Explanation is the HMC code and the FSP code must be able to co-exist. The HMC hardware will need to be able to run that level of code, so there is a hardware/HMC level, and FSP must all be in synch.

My take on it was there is an upgrade in the near future requiring an HMC. If not, there is no level of hardware or software that is supported any longer for a system capable of running twinax.

Depending on exactly what hardware model, firmware level, and IBM i version and release, IIRC, newer HMCs might not be able to be used with it or even support something that "old"...?
