One thing I had a hard time with newer systems is that it wouldn't let me
add another drive to an existing raid set. Older systems would let me do
that. So if I needed to increase space on newer systems I needed to
- End and restart raid
or
- buy enough drives to start a new raid set.
or
- not use protection on that new drive.

We used to fight with that aspect of starting RAID all the time. When
adding drives, we would add them two at a time so we could include them in
the RAID.

Now with the later RAID cards and software updates we have significantly
more flexibility.

Tried this. Switching off parity took ages, to free up the parity space

and add it to the ASP.

When switching parity back on, I have no choice to select which disks

should be part of the parity set. Duh!

Okay, so I need to switch it off prior to when we're at the DC next time

anyway to pull the disk in question and re-enable parity with the five
remaining disks.
