In the interest of full disclosure, I have been retired for ~6 months. Plus
I came from the S/3 and moved through that labyrinth (skipping the /32 and
/38). My "expertise" as some of you know, is the 36EE.
That said, the last time I looked, SDA36 was still available on the System
i. Not that I used it, even back in the day, as it was just too clunky.
Manually entering S&D specs was easier, BUT it was never removed from the
i. So, why remove STRSDA? There was to be an ulterior motive. And the
only thing I ever used (after a couple of tries) RLU for was to print a
facsimile of the report. Again, just using templates for reports (even
complicated ones) was easier.
And to Vern's point about UIM. I converted all of the /36 and /400 menus to
UIM years ago. Not especially easy (there ain't no STRUIM) but worth the
effort.
So is this a prelude to removing 36EE? DDS? Legacy? Heck I first came
across and studied SQL in the 70s; not nearly as good at it as any of you,
but if age is legacy SQL fits the definition. And don't even get me started
on C.

First, the term "legacy" is fairly flexible marketing language. AFAIK
there isn't even a generally definition of "legacy", and some even say, that
every piece of software, that goes into production is becoming a "legacy"
Yep... one doesn't need to convince people, just give them the language and
words in which they will reason.
If a thing is old doesn't mean it is obsolete, obviously. The wheel is old,
still works pretty well apparently.
So I think this overall question is really a non-problem or an auto induced
one.
Just leave such programs on the machine and remove explicit support or put
them on a "best effort basis". And sincerely, how many assistance tickets on
SDA have one opened in the recent years?
Or put the thing opensource, so the people can download the SAVF from
somewhere if they wish and install it and you are legally ok.
