You aren't actually implying that MS would release something that
intentionally disabled/disrupted Java, are you? Maybe I'm a little too
pro-MS, but that's a rather far out conspiracy idea.

No, not intentionally, they would never live that down and the courts have
already ruled on that point.  My point is, however poorly stated, is that
Microsoft likes to try and set standards that benefit them, and put down
competition.  Many of the so called standards that Microsoft comes up with
conflict with where industry is headed and directly conflict with
competitors.  There is also a war between .Net (or 2003 if you prefer) and
Java right now.  Personally I think if Microsoft would just develop its
product, which is in some ways very superior to Java, and worry more about
quality than trying to control/corner the market, they will get their fair
share of the server marketplace.  Microsoft is not happy with building a
better product, they want to destroy anything that may give them real
competition.
