[PCTECH] Need firewall protection, but have to LiveUpdate w/o firewall. What to do?

In kind of a Catch-22 situation here.  I have remembered Tom's words of
wisdom (below).  I already have Norton's Internet Security 2003 that I was
intending to use as my software firewall, but, after a successfull
installation, the thing failed out of the box and online support suggests
the Klez virus as the first possibility.  Which I have high doubts on since
the only source of the installs has been branded CD-ROMs (Win98SE, Windows
Security Update Feb 2004, Norton Internet Security 2003) and this PC has not
been connected to the internet since before the new hard drive was
installed, and FDISK'd, and formatted (using the Maxtor diskette).

As far as I know, this is about as clean an install environment as I can
get.

The other possibilities suggested by Symantec include a suggestion to run
LiveUpdate to fix another known problem, hence the catch-22 of going online
w/o an active firewall.

I should also note here that I am also using a Gigafast firewall/router.
Would this be sufficient protection to be able to run LiveUpdate so I can
get Norton's firewall up & running?
