What do you consider connected to the Internet? If it has been connected 
to a network that has a PC on that network that has been to the 
Internet, or on a network that has a PC that can get email, etc it can 
be exposed to a virus. And I consider that more of a threat then 
starting up an application that is updating itself, because worms will 
look for other PC's to infect.

The firewall/router is probably using NAT so PCs outside of your network 
are not going to know about your PCs behind the router. Now you can rout 
incoming traffic to addresses behind the firewall but it needs to be 
setup to do that. You have to do what make you comfortable, but I would 
not have a problem doing it with that setup or for that short of a time.
