In order for someone to be making a sustained effort to get in, they would have to know your IP address ... 95% of the IP's provided by broadband providers are dynamic, so they would have to know what your IP is NOW. Also, if you have a router, then they are hitting a brick wall. There's no way in (unless you allow something in). So it's a waste of time.


99% of what hits your router are the current batch of viruses that try to connect to services that are provided on windows by default (blaster, code red, etc).

Even if the router crashes ... since it's the only point of access for the internet, there's no risk.
