The other thing that I'm learning here is that the firewall/router only
protects against incoming baddies, and does nothing to stop baddies that
somehow make it onto my PC and "phone home".  I mentioned my paranoia
yesterday about keyloggers.  David, I guess I'm surprised that you don't run
a software firewall as well.  What protection do you have against the "phone
home" baddies?

I don't have any of the 'phone home baddies' ... I keep my virus protection current and run a spyware scanner (AdAware by http://www.lavasoft.de/) on a regular basis on all my Windows systems (mine, my wifes, and my play machine). My other two machines run Linux and I only open the necessary ports.


Inbound email has two layers of virus protection ... mail server and workstation.

Additionally, I don't run IE and *NEVER* run applications or open zip files from people I don't know.
