My brother-in-law has a G4 that he got for his wife. They like it but they
have three IPod's in their family. My father-in-law was considering one
too but opted to stick with a PC. There were the issues that you mentioned
of the learning curve etc. The reasons that he cited were that the Apple
hardware was more expensive (there are more deals on PC's), he would have
to buy all of the software that he currently uses, and he had other
attached hardware like a label printer that he was doubtful would be
compatible.

The ultimate thing was a backup system. He runs his own business and uses
both a desktop and a laptop. With the Apple he would have no compatible
backup system unless he shelled out even more $$$ to buy a Powerbook.

I'm seriously considering purchasing an Apple G5 for home use. What pros
and cons can you suggest?

My main reasons for considering this purchase are security, immunity to
(most) viruses (virii?), and ease of use . . .

Negatives are cost (although that difference is less than it used to be)
and
"non mainstream" (it's not a Windows PC which means I have to teach my
family the differences).

Thanks,
Steve
