It's been a few years but it sounds similar to a problem that I had. In
that case I was using Roxio's Easy CD Creator. The software didn't
recognized my drive as being writeable. Ultimately, I fixed it by
downloading the latest updates from their Web site.

If the drive has worked for you in the past and isn't now you might try
reloading the drivers and burning program(s), downloading any updates,
scanning for viruses, etc. Do you have any anti-virus software running?
If so, you might try turning it off and see if the drive is recognized
then. If it's an external drive you might have to "play around" with
powering it off/on to get it recognized. We have an parallel port drive
here at work that I hate because it's flaky like that. I think that I had
to do something wierd with it like boot up the PC without it being
attached, power it on, and then plug in the parallel cable.

Anyone seen this before?

The CDRW drive in my laptop is no longer being recognized as write capable.

If I put a blank CD in the drive, the system reacts as usual and pops up
the
CD utility to ask what I want to do with it. However, it doesn't matter
what option I select, the drive is not recognized as write capable. I've
tried two different CD burning programs and both behave the same.

Any suggestions?
