When asked similar questions I always respond with "Have you decided what
you want from the site? Who are you hoping will visit it? Why? What about
the site do you expect will make you money or further your corporate goals?
Management's answers to these questions usually open up a whole line of
further questions and lead to a reassessment of goals and purposes. Would
that be useful for you in this situation?

Subject: RE: [PCTECH] Web site time required

Maintaining the site is more about content development than hosting. No
real difference from a content maintenance side. The difference would
be on the administration side. With the hosted solution, you probably
won't have daily tasks; just contract issues & the usual vendor
management. Running it yourself, you'll have to ensure site
availability, do any config updates, etc. That said, once a site is up
& running the daily web server admin tasks are trivial. I don't
typically spend any time on our web servers unless there's a config
change to make.

IT in general should not be doing content management with the exception
of CGI coding and the applications that support the content. The real
content should be provided & maintained by those responsible; i.e.
marketing. You might want to check out some content management systems.
