Maybe the Master Boot Record got trashed or it's got some nasty virus
that altered it.

Does the drive show in Disk Manager?  If so, do the partitions show?  If
so, can the partition be set to Active (bootable)?

If the MBR is bad, you can FDISK /MBR or something like that to rebuild
it.
