Jon,

I saw it suggested elsewhere to try a "Repair" of IE.
Try the suggestions here http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_ie6.htm note
that you need the original XP CD-ROm for this.

Otherwise I would just use Firefox all the time (I do) and use the IE View
extension http://ieview.mozdev.org/ (for IE only sites and Windows/Microsoft
Update)

Subject: [PCTECH] "Missing" downloads

Lately when I use IE and click on a download link for an exe, the download
proceeds as normal until it gets into the "tidying up" stage. It then sits
there for a few minutes then the download window disappears completely. The
normal "Open" and "Open Folder" buttons never get activated.

The file never makes it into the designated folder.
There is no error message.
No pop-up from Defender or any other blockers.

I cannot find any setting in IE that seems to relate, and in Firefox the
same download works perfectly. I'd use Firefox all the time but some sites
don't work with IE and if they use JSPs etc. to control the download there's
no URL to copy into Firefox.

Any ideas?
