This isn't a new phenom - just a lot better organized and more
efficiently enacted.

I remember in the early web years there where squatters would register
domains for music, tv and film stars, and corporations large and
small, hoping to cash in by selling them when squatee decided to
create an internet presence.

I remember some high profile legal battles where the squatee would sue
for the use rather than pay them off.  I don't remember the outcomes
of those trials though. anyone else?

don't loose anything. If they do get hits, they keep the domain with the
advertising on the site and make hundreds. It sounds like ICANN runs a bit

The domain I mentioned earlier? Just looked it up... taken and is one of
these sites.
