I have seen this problem for many years, and have explored this issue with both
Adobe (said it was a browser problem) and MS (said it was an Adobe problem).
One customer has a website and serves many pdf files from the ifs each day.
Adobe does have a "feature" to display the pdf within the browser page. I always have users turn this preference off because of the blank pages. Then Adobe will display the pdf in a new window, and that always works. Every new update from Adobe seems to set that preference back to the default. I have seen the display within the page work, but it seems to only
work for a very narrow match of Adobe Reader release level & IE level.
Also, having multiple versions of Adobe on same pc is unstable (to me), and downloading a new copy of reader does not uninstall old versions. Have not explored the problem in last 2 years so don't know if Adobe/MS ever resolved this. We stick to the recommend to
change the preferences.
There is a faily active Adobe community online, and I would check there.
