Many thanks to all who have posted replies.  It has given me quite a lot
to think on.

It sounds like the best way to go may be with extenders or repeaters.  I
forgot to mention that the main interior walls of the church building
between the office and the outside access point on the other side of the
building are brick (two walls).  I don't know why, it's an old building.
For that reason I like the cable option but I don't know if we can run
it from one side to the other very easily.  Flat roof, no attic.  Might
be a crawl space though.

On the security side, what are WEP and WPA?  Security protocols I
presume?

Any good links to how to secure wireless networks, or is that included
with the wireless router?
